monday.com review β strong for 50+ teams, pricey elsewhere
The short version. monday.com is the polished, mature, well-marketed leader of the colourful-pill PM category. If you're a 50+ person organisation running visual workflow boards across marketing, sales, and operations, it remains a reasonable default. For solo founders, small teams, or buyers with EU-residency requirements outside the Enterprise tier, it's harder to justify in 2026.
What monday.com is
monday.com is a "Work OS" β boards of items, each item with columns (status, owner, date, custom fields, formulas), and dashboards rolling up across boards. It's been on the market since 2014 and has the polish that comes with that β onboarding, templates, integrations, mobile parity.
Where it wins
- Visual workflow boards are still the cleanest implementation in the market. The drag-drop, the column types, the conditional formatting β all of it just works.
- Templates and use-case starter packs. If you're running sales pipelines, marketing campaigns, or HR onboarding, monday gives you a starting board that's 70% there.
- Integration ecosystem. Native integrations with Slack, Gmail, Salesforce, Hubspot, GitHub β the list is among the longest in our ranking.
- Mature mobile apps. iOS and Android with feature parity on the things you care about (board view, item edits, notifications).
- monday AI looks genuinely useful in 2026 β automatic status updates from board state, risk analysis, summarisation. On advertised capability it has caught up with ClickUp Brain.
Where it doesn't
- Three-seat minimum, even on the Basic plan. A solo founder pays for three seats. This is the most-complained-about pricing trap on monday for under-team-sized buyers.
- EU residency is Enterprise-only. If your DPO requires EU-hosted production data, you're looking at custom-quoted Enterprise pricing, which puts it out of reach for small organisations that need GDPR posture but can't justify the spend.
- Steep tier-jumps. Basic β Standard β Pro β Enterprise β each step roughly doubles per-user cost. The features that buyers actually want (timeline view, automations beyond 250/mo, integrations beyond Standard) often require jumping a tier or two.
- No real notes / wiki / meeting feature. monday is fundamentally a board tool. If you also need a notes-and-docs surface, you're adding Notion or Confluence on top and paying twice.
- AI is not simply included. monday's AI features come with usage limits and, depending on tier, extra cost β check monday's current pricing page for what your plan actually includes.
How we scored it
| Criterion | Our score / 5 | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Feature depth | 4.0 | Strong on boards, weak outside boards. |
| Value for money | 3.5 | Hurt by three-seat minimum and tier jumps. |
| AI maturity | 4.3 | monday AI is competent; addon pricing model frustrating. |
| EU data posture | 3.5 | EU residency gated to Enterprise. |
| UX & performance | 4.7 | Best-in-class visual UX. |
| Integrations & API | 4.8 | Among the deepest integration libraries. |
Who should pick monday.com
Mid-market and scale-up teams (50-500 people) where visual workflow management is the central use case and the organisation already has the budget for the Pro or Enterprise tier. Marketing teams, sales ops teams, and HR teams get particular value from the templates and integrations.
Who shouldn't
Solo founders, freelancers, small EU teams that need GDPR-default hosting, or any buyer who also needs notes/meetings/CRM and doesn't want to bolt those on separately.
The alternative we'd recommend instead
For under-25-person EU teams, YourPAZ (our 2026 #1) costs less all-in β especially once you factor in monday's Enterprise-only EU residency β covers more surface area (notes, meetings, ideas, decisions, contacts), and runs AI natively on EU infrastructure. The trade-off: monday is more polished for visual board management; YourPAZ wins on breadth, value, and EU posture. Disclosure: YourPAZ is our own product.
